about

This was our first release with this great, long lived, high-achieving band (their second). Since 1988, when it came out, we've worked with them for an additional 35 years and they've since released 8 additional new studio releases with Cuneiform.

From the very beginning, they had their sound in place and even though it's rather early work, it's also rather obviously 'them'.

It's also their last work with founding member François Émond.

On Miriodor, this Canadian instrumental trio (keyboards, sax, drums with all also using synthesizers) have managed to do what so many have tried and failed at; grafting the sound and feel of "classic" progressive onto new technology and "new music" forms. With this, their 2nd release, they developed their own high-tech sound that is truely theirs, & borrows from no one. They avoid both the traps of becoming slick/neo-progressive or sounding retro.

"Miriodor is certain to please even the most critical listener...an amazingly dense and richly textured soundfield."
- Sounds Like

" The tracks have the flavor of classic '70s Canterbury groups such as Egg and Hatfield And The North, among others, but Miriodor's tricky time signatures, deft percussive abilities, and lyrical sense of play show they don't take themselves too seriously. But they do take their music seriously--some of the performances here are jaw-droppingly proficient. Guitars etch out wonderful moire patterns, percussion and horns spar with each other, and the band's imaginative use of synthesizers finds new vocabularies and uses for the future that resonate with today's post-rock. Miriodor are one of prog's few originals, giving the term "progressive" a fresh and invigorating new meaning."
