mondello1 This is a terrific album, I have one other by the late Piero Milesi, The Nuclear Observatory of Mr Nanof, both are excellent. Wonderful stuff.

guysegers I had already 2 albums from him. He is a great composer..... Very sober, but with a strong direction. The way he sometimes use artificial/virtual instruments convinced me to also combine real and artificial. He is a master in that area.

Piero Milesi (1953 - 2011) studied electronic and experimental composition at Milan’s Conservatorio “G. Verdi” after early training as a cellist. He later graduated from the University of Architecture in Milan, where he wrote his dissertation on the relationships between space and music. His interest in correspondences between musical and visual composition is evident in the fact that many of Milesi’s works are composed for visual spectacles ranging from ballet to film to fireworks displays. One of his pieces was featured at the “XVII Triennnale” of Milan, one of the most important exhibitions of modern industrial art in Europe.

Milesi was one of a number of young, interesting composers in Italy who, although little known here, quietly changed the way we think about music and its usage via their work with soundtracks and installations and which were echoed by many other composers internationally. A former member of the Italian musical cooperative “L’Orchestra”, in which he worked as both a composer and performer, Milesi later worked primarily as a composer, performing only his own works. He scored numerous film, video, and television soundtracks, and composed music for several ballets and live performance events.

Piero died relatively young of a heart attack in 2011. All four of the albums he released in his lifetime were issued by or reissued by Cuneiform Records.

Piero was one of the earliest Cuneiform artists, as I started the label in 1984 and released his album, 'The Nuclear Observatory of Mr Nanof' in 1986. I met him once in the late 80s when he came to visit my wife and myself for a few days. He was a very nice person and he was also a very interesting man to discuss music and art with.

Within Himself was the first new music released by him in almost a decade and the last of four albums released in his lifetime. This culls the best of his many works for installations & films and shuffles them into a flowing, cohesive album. The works are melodic new music compositions, which have an underlying electronic/minimalist base.
